3/1/2010 |
The coin was one of 1,874 lots of numismatic material offered in three floor sessions Feb. 4 and 5 by Heritage Auction Galleries in the official auction at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo.
Also in the auction, a 1943-S Lincoln cent struck on a copper-alloy planchet realized $207,000. The coin, graded Very Fine 35 by PCGS, is one of only seven known 1943-S Lincoln cents struck on copper-alloy planchets at the San Francisco Mint, instead of the intended zinc-coated steel.
Heritage's auction brought total prices realized of $7.866 million, with 1,678 of the total lots, or 89.5 percent, reported sold.
The prices realized include the 15 percent buyer's fee added to the final winning bid.
